June 5, 2014 (El Cajon)--Six-time NASACAR Champion Jimmie Johnson will be returning to his hometown of El Cajon for a special tribute on Tuesday, June 17.

Weather permitting, the El Cajon City Council will hold a special celebration to recognize the hometown hero for his racing accomplishments—and also his philanthropic contributions to the community.  The City is encouraging everyone to attend and show support for one of the racing world’s biggest stars.

This special tributes to Jimmie Johnson will be held in the Centennial Plaza, located at 200 Civic Center Way in downtown El Cajon. The date again is June 17 from 11 a.m. to noon, weather permitting.

The ceremony includes proclamations by elected officials, plus Jimmie’s own #48 racecar will be on display, along with Jimmie Johnson collectible “hero” cards while supplies last.  Due to his time constraints, he will not be signing autographs.

Johnson is one of the most winning athletes in ALL sports – and he continues to make his hometown proud.  Last year, he won his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, adding to a NASCAR record five championships in a row.  At just 38 years, he is also the youngest driver ever to win six titles. He’s won 68 titles in his lifetime, and just in the past two weeks, Johnson won back-to-back races, the Autism Speaks 400 and the Coca Cola 600.

Johnson still visits San Diego each year, not only to see family, but to give back to the community through the Jimmie Johnson Foundation.

To date, his Foundation has given more than $6.5 million dollars to local schools here in El Cajon and across the nation—making him a true hometown hero.
