January 8, 2015 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police have arrested a woman suspected of fraudulently buying at least seven vehicles at dealerships in El Cajon and San Diego.

According to Lieutenant Frank La Haye, Motoworld of El Cajon filed a police report in December after a suspect later identified as 22-year-old Amanda Uribe purchased a Polaris RZR using a check from a closed account.

This week, Mercedes Benz of El Cajon notified police that a suspicious person had tried to use a fraudulent account for pay for repair of a Mercedes Sprinter van.  The suspect was identified as Uribe, who was then arrested.

The investigation found that Uribe had bought the Mercedes van as well as an Audi A4 from E-Cars Inc. of San Diego using the same bogus account she had previously used at the Mercedez dealership in El Cajon.

Detectives continued their investigation and found that Uribe had also purchased a Lexus from Kia of El Cajon and a BMW at BMW of El Cajon.  Two additional cars were also purchased from Mossy Volkswagen of El Cajon.

“Currently all the vehicles in this case have been recovered with a total estimated value of $188,500,” Lt. La Haye says.

Uribe has been booked into County Jail on charges of identity theft, burglary and grand theft.

The investigation continues with the possibility of additional criminal charges being filed.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation may still contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.

wow!

Every time I bought a car they called the bank to see if the check was good. Guess they really need the sales?
