EL CAJON POLICE SEEK SUV CHEVY TRAVERSE THAT KILLED MAN WITH WALKER AND FLED SCENE

November 21, 2024 (El Cajon) – A 70-year-old man using a walker was struck and  killed on November 19 shortly after 6 p.m.  According to police, the victim was jaywalking across Jamacha Blvd. near Pointe Parkway when he was struck by the SUV.  The pedestrian died at the scene.

“After the crash, the driver of the dark colored SUV made a U-turn and fled eastbound on Jamacha Boulevard,” according to an El Cajon Police press release. “While fleeing the scene, sparks were observed coming from underneath the dark colored SUV, and a walker was not located at the scene.” The SUV has damage to the windshield and driver side mirror, the release adds.

Vehicle parts located at the scene of the crash identified the dark colored SUV as a 2018-2024 Chevy Traverse.

Changes made to jaywalking laws...

Assembly bill AB 2147, "The Freedom To Walk Act" creates a different scenario, outcome and police duty. Jaywalking is not always illegal now. Sadly, people crossing the street in an unsafe manner regardless of the law, can result in tragedy.
