November 14, 2011 (El Cajon) -- Los Coches Middle School's EnviroFair is an all-day event, with students cycling through a series of booths, presentations and hands-on activities. The cleanup is open to the public and will remove trash and recyclables from the areas around Los Coches Creek School.
American Recycles Day is a national program by Keep America Beautiful. It was founded in 1997 to promote environmental citizenship and encourage community action. The County unincorporated areas have achieved a recycling rate of 57%, but with the signing into law of AB341 in October 2011, recycling programs for commercial businesses, multifamily complexes and public entities will become mandatory.
Eight-hundred middle school students will participate in the EnviroFair, put on by the County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Planning and Recycling section, with I Love a Clean San Diego organizing. County staff and school staff will be available from 9:30-3:30 to talk about America Recycles Day, the County’s recycling programs and the school’s recycling program.  I Love A Clean San Diego staff will also be on hand to discuss the cleanup and their environmental education work.
America Recycles Day is November 15, 2011.  EnviroFair for Los Coches Creek Middle School students from 9:30-3:30pm. The community cleanup is from 3:30 until sunset (approximately 5:00pm).
Los Coches Creek Middle School is located at 9669 Dunbar Lane in El Cajon.  The EnviroFair activities will take place in the auditorium, with the cleanup registration taking place in front of the school. When Los Coches Creek middle school opened in 2005, County staff helped the school establish its campus wide recycling program, with paper, can and bottle collection in every classroom and bins around campus.
