On June 12, 2007, the La Mesa City Council created an eleven member Environmental/Sustainable
Committee, comprised of six residents and five members from the private and
public sectors. Their mission is to advise the Council and residents on the
implementation of effective and positive changes in the reduction or elimination
of causes that contribute to climate change.

The committee has held monthly meetings and devoted a majority of their time
to planning the festival and developing tools to help residents, students and
the business community become more aware of opportunities to reduce their environmental
impact.
