October 24, 2018 (La Mesa) -- Last Saturday, volunteers from across the City of La Mesa took a hand in cleaning up University Avenue at Envision La Mesa’s “Shining Our Streets” event. Neighbors and students from nearby Helix High School gathered unsightly trash, reported issues requiring the city’s attention through the YourGov app and dropped by to thank local businesses who chipped in to ensure participants had the supplies they needed for a successful event.

“This event was a great partnership between residents and local businesses,” said Craig Reed, a steering committee member of Envision La Mesa. “We all want a safe and clean neighborhood to live, shop and run a business in. The west side of the city hasn’t always gotten the attention it has deserved, but with the new Boys and Girls Club opening up, the recent street improvements and clean ups like this, we’re seeing changes we can be proud of.”

Numerous local donors helped make the event possible including:

EDCO

Erik Egelko

MTZ Screen Printing

A & W Liquor

Midas/SpeeDee of La Mesa

Starbucks (at 7350 University)

5 Star Market & Liquor

7-ll (at 7602 University Ave)

“We’re very thankful for all the support we’ve received for this event,” continued Reed. “It’s inspired us to develop future events which can build upon what this clean up and our other recent activities have started.”
