East County News Service --July 11, 2010 (Escondido) – Escondido police have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile who is suspected of raping and robbing a 16-year-old girl Friday morning on the flood control bike path near North Beech Street and East Valley Parkway.

The North County Times reports that the suspect had stolen property belonging to the victim in his possession. He was arrested while walking at North Rose near Washington Park by an officer who believed he resembled an artist’s sketch of the assailant.

Police initially described the assailant as a white man in his 30s with a shaved head, wearing a black ski mask, dirty black T-shirt and blue pants. A composite sketch released later indicated the suspect had a pock-marked face. ECM awaits a call back from Escondido Police to learn if the man took the mask off during the attack or how the detailed description was obtained, as well as whether DNA testing has been done.
