August 29, 2023 (Jacumba Hot Springs) -- Over Labor Day weekend on September 2, Jacumba Hot Springs celebrates its wild sunflowers -- cheerful survivors of a challenging high desert clime - with a friendly Pop-Up Art Show, Nature Photography Exhibit and its monthly Bathhouse Bazaar.

Local artists and crafters gather to show their works 10-2 on Sept. 2 at the newly revived historic Bathhouse and lake property on Old Highway 80 and across the highway from 11-3 at Gilliam Gallery, where Kirk Gilliam and Linda Churchill showcase their talent.

This year, the town is also celebrating the rebirth of the Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel. Its completely remodeled restaurant provides innovative Moroccan/Sonoran-inspired dishes. The bar offers unique tasty and healthful beverage selections.

The Festival of Sunflowers is an opportunity to get acquainted with recent changes made to this historic town and its restored lake.  Free use of kayaks, easy walking trails to railroad cars and other desert curiosities, lichen and wildflower paths, and surprise sightings of local fauna like the big bobcat and wandering tarantulas make a trip to Jacumba memorable.

Recent threats of hurricane winds did not play out here, but the moderate rainfall and brisk winds left the town refreshed, anticipating the coming pleasant summer/fall temperatures the backcountry is known for.

Vendor and artist spaces are free of charge for the Bathhouse Bazaar and Festival of Sunflowers. Most music events are by donation or $20 entrance
fee.

For more information and vendor space reservations, call 949-698-3359.  Hotel information is available at www.jacumba.com.  Overnight accommodations can be found on AirBnb and HipCamp.

An evening music performance also Sept. 2, featuring the surfing-and-Middle Eastern-inspired band, The Scimitars, is scheduled for the Hotel’s open-air stage.

On Sunday evening Sept 3, American Troubadour Jason Dea West performs on the Jacumba Bathhouse's star-lit stage.
