FESTIVE 4TH OF JULY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF GETTYSBURG, CENTENNIAL PICNIC, & FIREWORKS GALORE

Jumr 27, 2013 (San Diego's East County) --Fireworks , parades,a centennial-themed celebration and an address by an Abraham Lincoln reenactor for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg are among the Fourth of July celebrations in East County and San Diego’s inland areas this year. 

Here’s a rundown on some of the festive Independence Day events, listed in alphabetical order by community.

Alpine Crown Hills Parade – The 16th annual Crown Hills Parade rolls out at 10 a.m. at Victoria Park Terrace and Gentian Way Alpine Ca. he parade includes horses, floats, a flying car, antique cars and motorcycles, dancers, bands, and lots of decorated kids. Kids are invited to join the parade with decorated bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc. Prizes will be awarded for best patriotic entries, for children 17 and younger. To participate call Hilde AT 619-659-8707.This event is hosted by Crown Hills homeowners, and sponsored by Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians and Kiwanis of Alpine.

Alpine- Viejas fireworks, music, movie and show:   Viejas will have music in the Vieijas Outlest Park from 4-7 p.m.  Then at 8 p.m., choose between two free activities, the movie Independence Day shown in the park, or the new ICONS show at the Viejas Outlets ShowCourt ( a multimedia program complete with top rock and roll artists’ music.)  Viejas will also have a fireworks show at 9 p.m.

El Cajon Centennial Themed Picnic and Fireworks --  Enjoy an old-fashioned  Centennial-Themed Picnic from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Kennedy Park, 1675 East Madison Avenue.  Musical entertainment starts at 3 p.m. with fireworks at 9 p.m.  Other activities include a kids’ train rides, a frree skate park, food, games and crafts.  Arrive early for free parking and fireworks viewing.

Lake Murray: This year's fireworks show was cancelled pending outcome of litigation in other places involving fireworks displays over water.

Julian 4th of July Parade:  Pre-parade activities start a 10 a.m. followed by the parade at noon on Main Street in this historic gold rush town. This year you’ll watch the Marine Color Guard leading off the festivities, followed by 10 antique tractors, the Mountain Tribal Gypsies, Submarine veterans, three old Julian Boys out for a drive, Buffalo Bill and Uncle Sam, the newly crowned Miss Julian and her entourage, andvintage aircraft flyovers.  The celebration also includes  bands, bunting, banners, flags, and patriotic songs.    www.julianparade.com

Poway commemorates Battle of Gettysburg at Old Fashioned Fourth of July:  Old Poway Park presents a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle Of Gettysburg as part of its annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July.  Civil War reenactments will be performed at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.  An actor portraying President Abraham Lincoln will also recte the Gettysburg address from the back of a steam train in the park. Festivities  run all day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park at 14134 Midland Road, including live music, free crafts and games for kids, treats, steam engine train rides, crafts, quilt displays, and mock train robberies. Fireworks will be held at 9 p.m. at Poway High School, 15500 Espola Road.  The park activities are free, however there is a $2 admission to the fireworks show and a $5 parking fee for non-Poway residents.

Ramona Fourth of July Celebration with Fireworks--  From 5-9 p.m., the Ramona Kiwanis and Rotary clubs will host this community’s annual Independence Day celebration at Olive Pierce Middle School, 1521 Hanson Lane. The vent includes food, fun an fireworks. 

Santee Salutes Festival and Fireworks: This large community event takes place from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Town Center Community Park East, 550 Park Center Drive.  The event includes rock and roll music with  80z All Stars playing hits from the 80s, a patriotic ceremony by the HMH-462 Color Guard, inflatable zone, food trucks and fireworks. Parking is $5 for regular and $15 for preferred. Free parking is available at the nearby Costco and Rio Seco School.
