FIRE DISPLACES FAMILY OF 5 IN LEMON GROVE

November 26,2010 (Lemon Grove) – An early morning fire the day before Thanksgiving destroyed a home at 2759 Washington Street in Lemon Grove. Just before 4:30 a.m., firefighters responded to fin heavy flames coming from the windows. A family of five was able to escape the burning home safely before fire crews arrived.

About fifteen firefighters had the fire knocked down in less than twenty minutes. Their quick action saved nearby homes from sustaining any damage. The home is considered a total loss with damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $100,000.

The American Red Cross was called to provide temporary housing for the family. Cause of the fire is now under investigation.

Responding agencies included Heartland Fire & Rescue crews from Lemon Grove and La Mesa, and crews from the San Miguel Fire Protection District.
