July 17, 2024 (Santee) – Santee firefighters rescued an unconscious woman from a mobile home engulfed in flames this afternoon, also saving numerous cats, though one cat perished.

Crews were  dispatched at 12:07 p.m. to the fire at Hawaiian Village Mobile Home Park, Unit 84 on Buena Vista Avenue in Santee,  arriving five minutes later. Occupants outside reported a potential victim still inside, so fire crews started extinguishing the flames and entered the residence, where they found the unconscious woman.

Firefighters extricated the victim from the fire and she was transported to a hospital.

The home presented significant access issues due to the accumulation of items obstructing entry, as well as operations inside the home, according to Santee Fire. Although the home was completely destroyed due to smoke and fire, firefighters

successfully protected adjacent homes from any damage.

ECM photographer Scott Lagace spotted smoke and drove to the scene,  where he saw “firefighters fighting the fire and also trying to give two cats oxygen.”

One of the home’s occupants reported 7-10 cats living in the

home. Firefighters successfully saved numerous cats, however, one cat that was removed did not survive, according to Santee Fire.
