May 25, 2012 (Shelter Valley)--The Banner Fire flared up at the eastern end this afternoon, prompting mandatory evacuation of the Stage Coach Trails RV Resort at the south end of the Shelter Valley community.

Approximately 50 people affected were notified by authorities who went door to door. A temporary evacuation point has been established at Borrego Springs High School, 2281 Diegueno Drive, County Emergency Services reports.

"There's a heavy marine layer over the fire which doesn't allow us to get aircraft over it; we anticipate the aircraft," Batallion Chief Nick Schuler told ECM.  "We believe the fire has grown somewhat."

Residents are urged to call 2-1-1 for all non-emergency calls and visit www.sdcountyemergency.com for updates online.
