March 12, 2012 (La Mesa)--Forget the busy burger joint, the crowded Chinese restaurant or the packed pizza parlor.  There’s a new spot in town that offers an alternative for those wishing to dine out.
For the past few Friday nights, GMC Acupuncture Clinic on University Avenue in La Mesa has been hosting Food Fest Friday, where local food trucks can promote their business and people can try a variety of foods at a reasonable price.

Mary, who asked that her last name not be published, of GMC Acupuncture Clinic and Dyann Manning, who owns and operates the food truck, Devilicious, organized the new meeting place after food trucks could no longer park their businesses near the village in La Mesa.

“It really worked out well for them to be here,” said Mary, noting the heavier traffic on University Avenue, which makes the new location easy to spot.
Food trucks participating at the new location provide Food Fest Friday goers with a variety of dinner options. Devilicious, the food truck that appeared on “The Great Food Truck Race,” serves up a diverse menu that includes Truffled Parmesan Fries, Asparagus Grilled Cheese and the All Crab Crab Cake.
Super Q Food Truck brings southeastern barbeque to San Diego with brisket, chicken and pork melts, and specialty barbeque sandwiches made with House Made BBQ Sauce.
For those craving something sweet, Sweet Treats’ dessert truck offers cupcakes, brownies, cakes and cookies baked by local vendors.
These are just a few of the food trucks you’ll find at Food Fest Fridays.
“There’s different food trucks every week,” said Mary.
Other than the different food choices, Food Fest Friday goers like Erika Wedel, come for the sense of community and to support small business.
“We’re kind of like groupies,” said Wedel, who comes with her husband and two young children just about every week.
Food Fest Friday is from 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m in the parking lot of GMC Acupuncture Clinic at 7871 University Avenue in La Mesa.  Feel free to take your food home or get out your camping chairs and bring them along. If you want to know which food trucks will be there, you can visit the Food Fest Friday La Mesa Facebook page.
Can’t wait until Friday? Visit the San Diego Food Trucks Facebook page to see where food trucks are going to be parked each day of the week.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Manning, and with the diverse group of trucks, “it’s cuisine for everyone.”
