Fundraiser for East County nonprofit takes place Oct. 17 at Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa

October 9, 2014 (San Diego) - John Carney, one of the top scoring players in NFL history, will be the Keynote Speaker at the Eric Paredes Save a Heart, Save a Life Gala on Friday, October 17.  The event will begin at  6 p.m. at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa on Mission Bay.  Carney, who ranks fourth on the all-time pro football scoring list, played half of his 22-year career with the San Diego Chargers.

TV news anchorwoman Kathleen Bade will serve as the event's emcee.  The gala will feature a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, seated dinner, and dancing.  Tickets are $125 per person and the money raised will support free heart screenings of local youth, ages 12 to 19, in 2015.  Tickets can be purchased online at epsavealife.org and a portion of the ticket cost is tax deductible.

The Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation was formed following the 2009 sudden cardiac arrest death of Steele Canyon High School student Eric Paredes.  The non-profit provides free heart screenings for teenagers to detect heart abnormalities.  Through the end of 2014, more than 14,000 free cardiac screenings will have found 1 in 100 youth at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.
