March 27, 2019 (El Cajon) – Four male passengers ejected in a fiery crash Monday night on Avocado Drive in El Cajon remain hospitalized in stable condition but are expected to recover, Lt. Stephen Kirk with the El Cajon Police Dept. reports.
El Cajon and Police responded at 9:15 p.m. to the crash after a 2008 Toyota minivan struck a rock on an embankment, flipped over multiple times and burst into flames. All four passengers were ejected and lying in the roadway. A utility pole also aught fire.
Heartland Fire crews extinguished the flames and the victims, all in their teens or early 20s, were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
NBC 7 reports that family has identified the driver as Samiullah FNU, 24. He remains unconscious and sedated, his father told NBC.
“The initial investigation has shown that speed did play a factor in this collision,” Lt. Kirk says, adding, “At this point, it is still unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved.”
The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this collision to call (619) 579-3311.
