December 15, 2010 (La Mesa) –Most robbers demand cash. But at noon yesterday, a man armed with a handgun entered Dr. Newman’s Optometry Office in the 5600 block of Lake Murray Boulevard and demanded that the doctor fill a bag with eye glass frames.

The doctor began to fill the bag with frames, then stopped. The suspect continued to fill the bag until the doctor told the suspect that he had taken enough eyeglass frames. The doctor then grabbed the bag and there was a struggle until the ripped open, at which time the suspect ran from the scene. There were no injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male, 18-25 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, armed with an unknown type revolver. No suspect vehicle was seen.

Anyone with any information on the location of this suspect is asked to call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400 or the Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477; you can also email or text anonymously at www.sdcrimestoppers.com. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to a felony arrest.
