FREE TROLLEY, BUS AND TRAIN RIDES OCTOBER 2

Riders can win prizes including free transit for a year.  Ditch rush-hour traffic, save gas and take a ride!

September 17, 2019 (San Diego) – Metropolitan Transit Service (MTS) and the North County Transit District (NCTD) are offering offer free rides to the public on all three trolley lines and fixed line busses, as well as the Coaster and Sprinter train service on Wednesday, October 2, which is also California Clean Air Day. 

Prizes will also be given away to riders, including a prize drawing for a full year of free transit, SDSU Aztecs football tickets, MTS day passes and gift certificates to Vons, Starbucks and Restaurant Week. 

 

You can enter by stopping by special booths on Free Ride Day, or by sharing your Free Ride Day experience on social media by midnight Oct. 2 with the hashtag #sdfreerideday19. Riders will also receive free tote bags and more.

 

Last year, over 53,000 trips were taken on our region’s first-ever Free Ride Day-- a record MTS hopes to beat this year. “We’re opening up our whole system to change the way San Diego moves,” MTS states on its website.

If you haven’t ridden transit before, MTS has professional trip planners you can call at (619)233-3004 Mondays through Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. as well as on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Or you can check the website’s  Trip Planner to search by bus route, Trolley line, bus stop number or general location. Watch the website’s trip planning tutorial video for a step-by-step guide. Remember – Park & Ride lots are a great option for commuters using the Trolley, Rapid or Rapid Express routes.

You can also download the OneBusAway App – This app allows users to zoom into your current location on a map and shows you the stops around you. It also lists the next arrival times for the next bus or trolley coming your way.
