February 23, 2016 (Lakeside) – A 10-year-old girl who pushed another child out of the path of a moving vehicle in Lakeside was struck and seriously injured. She was taken to Grossmont Hospital, where she later died of her injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein.

Family members identified the victim as Kiera Larsen. A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.

Nina Larsen, a family member, posted, “Those of you who had the pleasure of knowing Kiera know that she is such an amazing, beautiful, smart and funny little girl.  She truly brings so much love and happiness to so many people. “

The tragedy occurred at 5:05 p.m. after a Mercedes SUV parked on a sloping driveway of a home on Highway 8 Business in Lakeside began rolling down the slope. It is not yet clear what set the vehicle in motion, Officer Pearlstein said, adding that alcohol or drugs were not factors.
