January 23, 2019 (El Cajon) - Grossmont Adult School is completing its second round of multi-level English as a Second Language (ESL) classes with Viejas Casino & Resort. In these classes, employees – and local community members – spend three hours, twice a week in class improve their on-the-job English skills.

This opportunity for Viejas employees grew out of an existing partnership with the award-winning Grossmont Adult School program that hosted Viejas-sponsored hiring events for jobseekers. The success of these events led to discussions of other ways in which Adult Education and Viejas could partner to better serve the current labor force as well as the community.

“We’re excited to be a Grossmont Adult School community partner,” said Freddie Harmon, Vice President for Human Resources at Viejas. “This partnership has been amazing for our Team Members to help them improve their skill set to grow their Viejas careers and contribute to their local communities.”

Contributing to the growth of individuals and families while teaching skills that help them advance in their careers is Grossmont Adult School’s main mission. Offering an ESL class in a convenient location, outside of an area we typically serve, is another added benefit for the community.

Unsure what the interest level in this new class would be, we were pleased that more than 20 employees and community members have taken advantage of the class.

The ESL class is an 8-week class designed to accommodate work schedules, making it even more appealing to Viejas employees and their families.

“I like English class because I can go directly from work. It’s very convenient,” said Maria C., a class participant.

“I enjoy learning English at Viejas because it’s only two days a week and that’s convenient for me,” said Jose Alfredo C., another participant.

Now in its final stages of the second wave of 8-week classes, Viejas has begun promoting the next set of classes for new students.

The Grossmont Adult School offers ESL classes at a variety of locations throughout the region. To learn more or to attend a class, please contact
