Community asked to sponsor a student for $50 each
September 7, 2014 (La Mesa)--On Saturday, September 13th, the students and staff of the Helix Highlander Band and Color Guard have committed to a 12 hour practice challenge for their annual Rehearse-A-Thon, raising money while perfecting their competitive show.
While in the Highlander Band, students have the opportunity to perform and compete with other ensembles throughout Southern California and the United States in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, American Drumline Association, and Winter Guard International. Last year the Highlander Marching Band earned 6th place at the SCSBOA Championships, Winter Guard placed 4th at State Championships, and the Helix Drumline won the ADLA Open Division State Championship for the third year in a row.
In order for students to participate and perform at the highest level possible, each student has committed to raise $700 for the competitive season.
The money raised helps pay for instruction, coaching, transportation, uniforms, equipment/repairs, and circuit fees. The vast majority of the funds needed to support the program come not from the school or district, but from donations we receive from families, friends, and community.
The goal of each student is find 14 people to sponsor them at $50 for the day ($4.17 an hour). Helix Instrumental Music Association asks the public to sponsor a student for the day. You may donate any amount you wish, even $10 will help. 100% of all donations received go directly to support the music program. All donations you make are tax-deductible. You can donate by either mailing a check (payable to HIMA) to
