April 19, 2010 (San Diego) - The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services is trying to locate the owners of two injured animals that have arrived at County shelters, including a Siamese cat in El Cajon and an apricot poodle in Logan Heights.
The first is a neutered male Lynx Point Siamese that is approximately 12 years old. The cat, which was found in the unincorporated area of El Cajon and brought to the shelter by a Good Samaritan on April 12, had recently undergone expensive surgery for a fractured jaw and still had a wire in place. In addition, the cat’s toe on its left front paw has been surgically amputated.
The second is a male apricot poodle that is approximately two years old. When the dog was rescued by an Animal Control Officer in the Logan Heights area on April 3, it could not put any weight on its left rear leg. Animal Services veterinary staff took x-rays of the leg, which revealed that the dog had his leg surgically repaired within the last year. Two cross pins had been surgically inserted to stabilize a fracture and the pins were causing the dog problems. The pins have now been surgically removed by the veterinary staff at Animal Services.
“These pet owners cared enough to spend a lot of money, possibly thousands on this cat and dog, so where are they?” said Dawn Danielson, Director of the Department of Animal Services. “We hope the media can help us locate their owners who obviously cared for these animals a great deal judging by the care provided.”
Anyone with information regarding either of these animals is asked to call Animal Services at (619) 767-2675. If the owners aren’t located, the Department will work on finding new homes.
The poodle still needs some physical therapy for his leg but the cat is in good condition and would be ready for adoption immediately if no owner is found. Both animals are resting comfortably and are currently under treatment by the medical staff at the Animal Services shelter located at 5480 Gaines Street in San Diego.
