June 16, 2011 (El Cajon) -- In order to create a cleaner environment for our community, the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce is hosting an electronic waste [e-waste] recycling collection event on Saturday and Sunday June 25 and 26, 2011, in the parking lot of Westfield Parkway, directly in front of the Best Buy, from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.

The event is a free service to both city residents and businesses to properly dispose of their electronic obsoletes, and at the same time, help reduce improper and illegal dumping in our city and landfills.  More importantly, the event helps protect our planet from various toxicities from reaching our soil and environment.

The San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Computers 2 San Diego Kids, a locally based non-profit that aims to refurbish unwanted or broken computers, then donate them to underprivileged San Diego children and families. Any computer related materials donated on this day will be turned over to Computers 2 San Diego Kids and re-admitted back into society, this time as a fully functioning computer that will help to transform the lives, educational opportunities and future for a deserving San Diego family.

In addition, Westfield Parkway has partnered with the Chamber to ensure that the first 100 donors on both Saturday and Sunday, will receive a reusable shopping bag filled with one FREE movie pass to the Regal Cinema inside the mall.

Study shows that 35 million pounds of e-waste are still sitting in California homes and businesses.  Less than 29% of e-waste is currently properly dismantled and/or recycled.  Electronic discard is one of the fastest growing segments of our nation’s waste stream.

E-waste includes electronic products or devices, such as computer monitors, televisions, PC systems, printers, copiers, facsimile machines and home entertainment systems that have reached their useful end, whether in working condition or not.

Please come show your support for a cleaner environment by sending e-waste away from our city and landfills to the appropriate recycling process.  For more detailed information on the event, or qualified e-products, please contact the following:
