September 11, 2016 (New York) — On the 15th anniversary of the 911 terrorist attacks, here’s how the presidential candidates commemorated the occasion.

Democrat Hillary Clinton visited the 911 memorial site in New York where thousands lost their lives when the World Trade Center twin towers collapsed after being struck by airplanes, when she was New York’s Senator.  Clinton tweeted, “We'll never forget the horror of September 11, 2001. Today, let's honor the lives and tremendous spirit of the victims and responders.”

Back on September 11,2001,  Senator Clinton visited ground zero the day after the attack, calling it the gates of hell. She fought to get help for victims and their families, and later supported President Obama’s successful raid to take out Osama bin Ladin, theAl Qaeda who ordered the 911 attacks.  She also voted for the Patriot Act, a decision that proved controversial.  First responders held an event several years after 911 to thank Senator Clinton for pushing through legislation that provided medical care for first responders suffering from respiratory illnesses and cancer years after they risked their lives to save others.

Libertarian Gary Johnson sent this message on Twitter: “Remembering that day 15 yrs ago when so many were lost -- and so many heroes stood tall.”

Green Party candidate Jill Stein called for reforms.  She tweeted,” I would sign the bill to allow 9/11 victims' families to sue Saudi Arabia. So should President Obama.”  Stein also tweeted,” Wars since #Sept11 have created more terrorism. We must cut ties with nations funding terrorism. #NeverForget.”  In a third tweet, she faulted Bush and Clinton for failing to investigate Saudi ties to Al-Qaeda.

Republican Donald Trump also visited the 911 memorial this morning. He tweeted simply, "#NeverForget."

But Trump may be wishing some media outlets and the public would forget certain actions of his on and after 911.

The New York Daily News broke a story yesterday charging that Trump made false statements about how he spent 911 recovery funds that he received, The Daily News report states:

“Donald Trump’s tale about why he took $150,000 in 9/11 money is as tall as the Downtown skyscraper he says he used in recovery efforts, according to government records. Though the billionaire presidential candidate has repeatedly suggested he got that money for helping others out after the attacks, documents obtained by the Daily News show that Trump’s account was just a huge lie.”

In addition, the Washington Post reported that on 9/11,  after the fall of the World Trade towers,  Trump boasted, that he now owned the tallest building in New York.
