June 5, 2012 (San Diego)-Republican Duncan Hunter has won the 50th Congressional district primary with a solid 67% of the vote. Democrat David Secor has a firm hold on second place to square off against Hunter in November.
Secor faces an uphill battle in this heavily Republican District.
But he urges people in the district to make a “business decision” and terminate Hunter’s job. “He’s been sent to Washington to do our business, not the business of special interests and the extreme right," he has stated. "he people are ready for a change.”
Secor is running on a platform that includes creating jobs and rebuilding the economy, stopping the housing crisis, protecting Social Security and Medicare, strengthening public education, fair taxation and deficit reduction, amd reexamining foreign trade agreements to bring home American jobs.
Hunter has focused on strengthening defense, border security, and cutting "entitlements" such as Social Security that he faults for "breaking our nation." He also also voiced support for bringing back manfacturing jobs to the U.S.
With 96.8% of precincts counted, Secor has 17.26% of the vote. His fellow Democrat, Connie Frankowiak, took 7.57%, while Libertarian Michael Benoit picked up 5.35% and Tea Party Republican Terri Linnell drew 2.78% of the vote.
