August 26, 2018 (El Cajon) — A suspected drunk driver died after crashing into a tree and a retaining wall near the intersection of East Main and North Second Street in El Cajon early Saturday morning. The driver of the vehicle, a Hyundai, fled from California Highway Patrol Officers who tried to pull him over after they spotted him speeding and weaving on eastbound Interstate 8 near Severin Drive around 2 a.m.

Officers tried to pull him over but pulled off on the Second Street exit and headed south at an “extremely high rate of speed,” according to Officer Travis Garrow with the CHIP.

The man died at the scene after the crash, Garrow said. Officers weren't immediately able to determine his identity.
