November 7, 2016 (El Cajon) -- Lane and ramp closures are taking place along Interstate 8 (I-8) in El Cajon between Johnson Avenue and Lake Jennings Park Road Sundays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. until mid-December. According to Caltrans, the pavement rehabilitation project will also include lane closures on some adjacent surface streets.

On- and off-ramps subject to closure are Mollison Avenue, Greenfield Drive, Los Coches Road, 2nd Street, East Main Street, and Los Coches Road. However, no two consecutive on- or off-ramps will be closed at the same time.

In addition, lane closures will be intermittently scheduled between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the following surface streets in the immediate vicinity of I-8: Mollison Avenue, 2nd Street, East Main Street, Greenfield Avenue, and Los Coches Road.

Traffic alert signage has been posted.

The work is being done overnight when traffic volumes are lower, to minimize impacts.

Residents can expect intermittent lights and noise during construction as crews pulverize and remove damaged concrete panels. New concrete panels and Americans-with-Disability-Act-compliant ramps will be installed. In addition, rubberized asphalt is being added to some ramps and shoulders, making the roadway quieter.

Drivers are reminded to “Slow for the Cone Zone,” watch for highway workers, and use extra caution when traveling through the construction work zones.
