January 5, 2019 (Jacumba Hot Springs) – Following the recent death of hiking leader Richard Henry Alcorn, the Jacumba Hikers group will be inactive until new hiking leaders step forward. The group has long organized hikes in desert areas of east San Diego County and Imperial County.

Greg Curran, one of the remaining hiking leaders posted on the group’s Facebook page, “I have put a Shout Out! for more hike leaders to step forward but only one stepped up to the plate so far and one potential. Last time we had a Hike Leaders meeting only a few leaders showed up and those few have been leading 2 to 3 hikes per month and are getting burned out. So, we decided to take a break for awhile. I will be addressing this again soon and try to get more help.”

He adds, “One direction I was heading for is: if someone wants to lead a hike, get me the Date/Time & Description at least 1 week ahead of time so I can promote it and see if we can try that. Happy New Year! If interested in becoming a Hike Leader, contact gregcurran@sbcglobal.net.
