Tour to unveil the first brand new building on Hubbell Hill in 10 years

May 26, 2014 (Julian)--Iconic San Diego artist, global humanitarian and cultural leader, James Hubbell, will once again invite the public to tour his family’s magical and historically-designated compound in Julian, Calif. for the annual Father’s Day Open House on Sunday, June 15, 2014. The tour will also unveil the brand new ninth building on the compound – the Ilan-Lael Foundation building, which has been under construction since early 2013. The archive and gallery spaces of the new building will be open for the first time ever, which will showcase some of Hubbell’s most recent work.

“Anne and I have been building here since 1958. At this time there are nine buildings, gardens, trails and about forty acres of nature, now all a part of Ilan-Lael,” explains Hubbell. “We are close to completing two-thirds of a new education center for the Foundation.  Ilan-Lael has been pouring out art for the past 55 years and my hope is that with the new Foundation building it will continue to do so."

The new Ilan-Lael Foundation building houses some of Hubbell’s most engaging art, a meeting space to accommodate organizations and retreats, as well as a courtyard amphitheater designed for outdoor classes and events. The Ilan-Lael Foundation was created by Hubbell as a non-profit education foundation, which creates a space to connect people, art, and nature in order to form a more sustainable and harmonious world. The Ilan-Lael Foundation also provides hands-on opportunities to celebrate and create the built environment, as Hubbell as done with his artistic career for decades.

The Father’s Day tour will be open to the public with tours from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., or 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.  Tickets are priced at $50 per person ($30 for students with ID, $40 for seniors) for a one-day admission to the majestic property. An included shuttle service will transport visitors from Wynola Farms Marketplace (located at 4470 Hwy. 78, Julian, CA) to the Hubbell home and studios.

For the best deal, visitors are encouraged to sign up for an annual membership/Open House ticket package, priced at $75. Annual members receive a 10% discount at the Open House bookstore, a 10% discount on ticketed events (included for Open House ticket), subscription to the bi-annual Ilan-Lael newsletter with musings and art by Hubbell, and email alerts for arts & culture events in San Diego and region.
