July 7, 2012 (El Cajon) – A new phenomenon in today’s challenging economy is the rise of “cash mobs” organized by friends via social media to help local merchants. The craze has caught on across the country and today, takes root in El Cajon.

The public is invited to meet at the corner of Main St. and Magnolia in front of Starbucks at noon, then walk en mass to Glamour Girlz Boutique one block east on Main St.

A flyer circulated by a neighboring merchant explains the event is designed to “give a fabulous little boutique an economic shot in the arm. Come prepared with your $20 economic relief to purchase clothes, jewelry, purses, gifts, leave with some “bling” for yourself or a friend!   You win and the boutique wins!”

Afterwards, all are invited to another local business—the El Cajon Brewer (110 North Magnolia) to “meet new friends and discuss the success of the event—and possibly plan another.”  Participants are encouraged to bring a friend, or two to join the “mob.”
