October 14, 2015 (Julian) – The Julian Triangle Club’s  59th annual October melodrama, “Keeping the Doctor Away”  or “Take Two Apples and See Me in the Morning” continues this weekend and next at the historic Julian Town Hall.

This year’s director, Sandi Bennett, is cracking the whip over the all-volunteer local cast, who come from all walks of life to put on the traditional Melodrama and raise money for our local charities including scholarships for local students.

There's always trouble when the villain comes in on the stage coach, and this year is no exception. Will the miners catch on to his dastardly, conniving plan to steal their gold? Will the sweet heroine be duped by him and will the handsome sheriff get there in time to save the day?

 To find out the answers to these and other questions, join in the booing and cheering audience participation, and see the variety of olio performances and sing-alongs between acts.

The remaining shows will be held Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday this weekend and next.

Tickets are $10 for everyone over 12, children 4-12 are $5 (under 4 is free) and a family of 4 with children is $25.

 This year's cast includes (in order of appearance):

Marty Emery as the stage coach driver, Miners #1, 2 and 3 and Dr. Kavanaugh Baldwin III;

Kevin O'Connor as the Villain, Willis Winesap;

Stacy Hodo as the Villain's girlfriend, Goldie Jonagold;

Hannah Thom as the heroine, Manzanita MacIntosh;

Anthony Soriano as the Hero, Sheriff Jonathon Pippen;

Barbara Keresztury as Elvinnia "Granny" Smith.

 Nancy Kramer is the director of the Triangle Club Chorus Group (AKA “the Floozies”) and they have some fun songs planned for this year, between the acts. Michele and Emily Phillips are in charge of the CanCan girls, ages 8-11. Their dance routine was choreographed by Amber Phillips.

Opening night is Friday, Oct 2nd and proceeds will go to the late Bobbi Green Scholarship Fund for the Arts or Nursing. Bobbie played an active roll in the production of the Melodrama, first as the heroine and much longer as the director, for a total of almost 40 years. Funds from the closing Saturday night performance will go to the Town Hall downstairs restoration project. Proceeds from all other performances go into the general Triangle Club's Julian Scholarship and Youth Programs fund.
