July 17, 2015 (La Mesa) -- La Mesa is marking the groundbreaking for it centennial legacy project with a public ceremony on July 23 at 9:00 a.m.

Come meet and greet La Mesa residents and design competition winners Jess, Mary Lynn and Amy Dominguez, who will be on hand for the ceremony.

The Lookout will be a glass mosaic tile gazebo depicting special events in the city’s history, and reflect the small-town feeling and friendly façade reminiscent of the period buildings in the surrounding area. It is hoped that it will act as a gathering place to rendezvous with friends and family before browsing the local shops or visiting one of the many eateries in the Village.

The project will include statuary of the snail for which Mt. Helix was named, cast in the foundry at San Diego State University's School of Art and Design.

"Legacy Park" is located at the convergence of La Mesa Boulevard (known as Lookout Avenue until 1940), and the ceremony will be held on the sidewalk on the west side of the site.
