February 8, 2016 (Lakeside) – Plans are moving forward for a 14-acre Lakeside Equestrian center at Willow Road and Morena Avenue in Lakeside, but additional funds are needed to make the dream become a reality.

County Parks and Recreation will hold a public meeting Wednesday, February 11th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on plans for a new Lakeside Equestrian Park. The meeting will be held at the Lakeside Community Center, 9841 Vine Street in Lakeside.

The project has support of East County’s Supervisor, Dianne Jacob and is now in a design phase.  According to the East County Equestrian Foundation, “The Facility itself will be funded and built by San Diego County through County Parks and Recreation, however we need to have five years operating expenses in a San Diego County escrow account before County Parks and Recreation will put shovel to dirt. At this point we are estimating we need 150k, however this may change depending on design approved.”

Several substantial donations have come in, including $1,000 from the Lakeside Frontier Riders and $600 from the Santee Lakeside Rotary Club.  Another $770 has been raised from individuals through a Go Fund Me site at https://www.gofundme.com/w9j55c.

The proposed facility would include a covered arena and an outdoor arena, livestock corrals, trailheads and trailhead staging area, hitching posts, picnic tables, bucking and roping chutes, wash racks, restrooms, shop, equipment room, parking and more.
