December 14, 2016 (La Mesa) - A hallmark movie come to life, filled with everything you need for Christmas: music, family, kids, humor, drama, love, carols, and that touch of magic that comes with the season.

It's 1962, in a small American town. On a whim, rich bachelor John Dale decides to rent Chrismas from a shop that claims to rent everything. The proprietress does not even flinch at his request to rent a family, and sets about to make it happen.

Robin Pollack is directing her second holiday play at Lamplighters this year. She wanted to bring something fresh to the plate, a play that had not been done in San Diego. She found Rented Christmas, a perfect little play. Eight kids were featured with seven adults, a nice blend. Normally we have kids or adults in separate shows.

The star was Dena Mattox as Anne Weston, store owner. She did a fabulous job as a sixties kind of TV mom type. Rob Conway played, John Dale, a great counterpart with his school boy silliness. Jeffrey Duncan, brought the humor as Briggs. Sharyn Noll gave us the grandmotherly feel as Martha, the housekeeper. My favorite child actor, Cyli Nichols as Jinny, was so grown up. Who wouldn't love Catherine Tarlov, as Cynthia? She tapped. All the kids brought joy to the brought with their wonderful acting abilities. Everyone made you believe they really could be a family.

This play has a fun plot to take away the stress of the season, and remind you what Christmas is all about--bringing joy to others. Take a couple hours away from shopping and socialzing to make some actors happy and enjoy the show.

Lamplighters is located on Severin in La Mesa. The show is at 8 p.m.on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. www.lamplighterslamesa.com.
