December 9, 2011 (La Mesa) updated 9:40 p.m.-- Justin Foulds, 39, of Lemon Grove has been arrested for driving under the influence in relation to a fiery accident that killed a man and woman in La Mesa this evening.

According to Officer Brian Pennings with the California Highway Patrol, Foulds was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Highway 125 at 5:35 p.m. when traffic slowed to about 5 mph.  Foulds struck a Nissan Pathfinder in front of him, propelling it into a Lincoln which in turn struck a Ford F-150.

"The collision caused both the Silverado and thePathfinder to be hooked together," said Officer Pennings.  "According to witnesses, both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames within seconds."  Foulds was able to extricate himself from his vehicle, but a man and woman trapped in the burning Pathfinder died.

The occupants of the Lincoln and  F-150 were not injured.

Highway 125 shut down just south of I-8 following the horrific crash for cleanup and investigation.  Foulds was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Jail.

Earlier news reports indicated Foulds was on his way home from an office party, however the CHP has now indicated that is untrue; the company party was held on a different date.
