LMPD IDENTIFIES OFFICER INVOLVED IN SHOOTING

May 8, 2019 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police Department has identified Officer Roberto Nava as the officer who discharged his firearm May 2nd, injuring a trespassing suspect armed with a knife. Nava has been with the LMPD for five years.

The incident occurred on May 2nd at 7920 Rainey Street at 9:15 a.m. Officer Nava fired three shots, striking Daniel Chase McKibben in the shoulder and hand.
 
Officers had responded to a call reporting a trespasser who refused to leave the residence.  
 
The case has been referred to the District Attorney for prosecution.
 
McKibben is also a person of interest in a homicide that occurred May 1st on Niagara Street in Ocean Beach. San Diego Police Department has been notified and is assisting in the investigation.
 
McKibben was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition. 
 
Details on how McKibben was identified have not been released.
