LOCAL LITERARY LUMINARIES JOIN “CELEBRATE OUR ROOTS” EVENT

June 12, 2013 (San Diego's East County) – Sunbelt Publications' authors of books on East County’s history and cultural heritage will join East County Magazine’s “Celebrate Our Roots” event on Wednesday,  June 19 at Heritage of the Americas Museum from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The authors will speak and autograph their books. Sunbelt has also donated books as prizes for this event, which celebrates our region’s  cultural and agricultural roots.  For tickets, call (619)698-7617 or email editor@eastcountymagazine.org.  The event benefits East County Magazine’s nonprofit media outlet and is cosponsored by Sullivan Solar.

This special event also includes international foods, wine tasting, Native American dancing by Eric RunningPath,  live guitar music by Krista Timm and Vicky Archibold from San Diego Performance Academy, speakers and displays on local agriculture, prizes and surprises. In addition, guests will have an opportunity to play the East County Triva Quiz game show to be aired on East County Magazine’s radio show on the new KNSJ  89.1 FM station.

You can also learn about our colorful agricultural history, talk with local farmers, winemakers, a beekeeper and chicken coop designer, enjoy free museum tours, learn how to go solar, and win thousands of dollars in prizes including golf, a resort vacation getaway, restaurant gift certificates, garden basket, dog owners’ basket, martial arts lessons, music lessons, event tickets, wine gifts, and tickets to upcoming events!

Participating authors at the event include Diana Lindsay, author of numerous books on the Anza-Borrego Desert, Leland Fetzer, author of books on the Cuyamacas, Roberta Labastida, author of My Ancestors Village on Kumeyaay Native American history, Richard Carrico, author of Strangers in a Stolen Land: Indians of San Diego County from Prehistory to the New Deal, Jack Innis, author of San Diego Legends, and Linda H. Pequegnat, author of This Day in San Diego History.

Why: Proceeds benefit our nonprofit public radio program, online news and free wildfire/emergency alerts. We reflect the people’s interests - not special interests!

Cost: $18 or 2 for $30 before June 13;  $20 or 2 for $35 after June 14 or at the door

Children 4 to 12:  $9 before June 13, $10 after June 14 or at the door (Age 3 and under free with adult)
