December 15, 2013 (El Cajon) – El Cajon resident and high school junior Alana Bianco has been attending Capistrano Connections Academy, an online public charter school, instead of a traditional high school. She is interested in learning more about programming and has also enjoyed acting on the side. ECM recently interviewed Bianco to find out more.
She is originally from Florida and had moved to Newport Beach, CA as she was going to start her freshman year of high school. She and her mother found out about Capistrano Connections by looking online. Capistrano Connections “got good reviews,” Bianco added. She tried out public high school in her sophomore year in Burbank, but she didn’t like it as much as she liked online school. So, she then went back to Capistrano. She’s also been homeschooled while living in East County.
She became passionate about programming because “my Mom is a really big computer tech person. She asked me to try it. I actually started to like it.” She’s also taking acting classes on the weekends when she’s not busy with school. “I’ve always wanted to be an actress since I was four,” Bianco admitted. She’s never had trouble balancing out her school schedule and acting. She’s also enjoyed yoga especially on the beach in San Diego.
Capistrano has a suite of career technical and computer courses aimed at helping students learn about potential careers early on. “I’ve learned how to be more responsible and time management, to go at my own pace,” Bianco said. “I feel more on my own.”
Her goal is to go to college and get a Bachelor’s degree. Her possible career choices include being a first grade teacher or having a career that has to do with technology among others. Her life goal is also “succeeding in anything I do and being happy with what I do.”
