June 7, 2018 (Alpine) -- Linda Cioffi is on a mission: to help find a cure for Alzheimer's in her lifetime.  Her annual fundraiser, Quest for the Cure, is this Friday, June 8, from 4 p.m. to8 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center Grand Ballroom. The community is invited to attend and enjoy opportunity drawings and a silent auction. The grand prize for the opportunity drawing will be a luxury staycation at a beach or bayfront home in San Diego with area theme park tickets. Other items include a Barona Casino package with spa and golf, and a Palm Springs getaway.

Cioffi sees the heartbreaking effects of Alzheimer's and other dementias every day, as she runs a senior and memory care facility, Alpine View Lodge. She's been a passionate Alzheimer's advocate for decades, working closely with the local nonprofit Alzheimer's San Diego. She participates in their annual walk, Walk4ALZ, every year with her team Quest for the Cure.

In 2017, her team raised more than $70,000. This year, Cioffi hopes to surpass her own record.

"It's hard to find anyone who hasn't been affected by this disease," she explains. "I'm proud to support a local organization like Alzheimer's San Diego, where every dollar stays in the county to help our families and fund research for a cure."

San Diego County officials released new estimates for the number of people living with dementia in April – more than 84,000, up from 65,000 just two years earlier. Cioffi says support for organizations like Alzheimer's San Diego is needed now more than ever.

Descanso Junction will be catering this event with their famous barbecue dinner for $20, and their Nacho Bar for $7. Tickets for both food options are available now at the Alpine View Lodge office, the Alpine Chamber of Commerce or the Alpine Community Center. You can call Alpine View Lodge at 619-445-5291 for further information.
