February 14, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – A late season storm left a dusting of snow across rural and mountain areas in East County, dipping as low as Descanso along I-8.

Tomorrow and Thursday, a chill Alaskan weather system is expected to dip snow levels to 2500-3500 feet, with heavier snowfall reaching 10 inches atop Mount Laguna.

Snow levels of 4-8 inches are forecast down to 4000 feet, with 2-4 inches above the 3000 foot level.  At lower elevations rain is forecast, along with gusty winds that could exceed 60 mph in some mountain passes.

Use  caution if you must drive during the winter storms. Watch for ice, especially at night or in the early morning, and be sure to carry chains on mountain highway.
