May 15, 2023 (Lakeside) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner has identified a hiker who died April 30th on a trail in Lakeside as Sergio de Jesus Santiago Sufy, 27, of Tijuana, Mexico.
According to the Medical Examiner, the victim was hiking with friends along the El Capitan Trail on Blue Sky Ranch Road in Lakeside when they ran out of water on the evening of April 30. Two individuals returned to their vehicle to get water while the decedent and another individual stayed behind.
While awaiting the return of his friends, the victim became unresponsive and 9-1-1 was called. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts were performed until paramedics arrived and also performed life-saving measures, which were unsuccessful. Death was pronounced at the scene.
