MAN WHO THREATENED LOCAL ISLAMIC GROUP TO BE SENTENCED DEC. 15

December 2, 2015 (La Mesa) – A La Mesa man will be sentenced December 15th for hate crimes targeting the Council on Islamic Relations in San Diego and Washington D.C.

John David Weissinger, 54, pled guilty to making a criminal threat with hate crime allegations, as wlel as possessing an illegal assault weapon.  He has claimed he was drunk when he made threats via phone and email, Detective Dean Way with the San Diego Police testified. 

Weissinger threatened to shoot people, mentioning the massacre by Islamic terrorists at the Charlie Hebdo magazine office in Paris that occurred just one week before his threats last January.

A woman who worked the the Council on Islamic Relations office in Kearny Mesa also testified, saying the caller threatened to shoot her and other employees.  “I was terrified,” said the woman, who wanted her name withheld, La Mesa Patch.com reported. She also told the court that she had seen Weissinger lingering around the office before the threats were made.
