December 8, 2016 (San Diego) — Governor Jerry Brown has appointed former San Diego State Senator Marty Block to chair the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board.

The agency is an independent administrative court system for workers and employers seeking to challenge decisions made by the state Employment Development Department.  The position requires Senate confirmation.

Block did not seek reelection to the State Senate, where his former seat has been filled by former Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins.

Prior to his tenure in the Assembly and later, State Senate, he served as president of the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees and served on the faculty and administration of San Diego State University.

Yup, that's what they do.

Once you get elected to the California Senate or Assembly you have a lifetime government job on some phony "board", even when you are termed out.
