October 5, 2012 (El Cajon)--It's the errors that make them valuable: stamps and people. Five simple characters or not so simple. Mauritius is the story of two half-sisters whose mother recently passed away The plot and arguments revolve around a stamp collection.
Mauritius was originally produced in New York by the Manhattan Theatre Club.
This is a story driven by its characters. Jackie played by Yvette Angula the beaten down sibling trying to make a go. Dennis played by Jake Hoff Prince Charming in disguise. Sterling (Kerry Flower) the man trying to make her dreams come true. Mary (Kelsey Bavencoff) the selfish sister who refuses to bend or help. Phillip (Ryn Corbeil), the uncooperative expert.
The set, which switched between a collectors shop and living quarters, was cleverly designed by Craig Everett.
Schmitz does an admirable job combining the talents of his actors to bring us an engaging, bittersweet, thought provoking, play. What would you do? What lengths would you go to get what you want?
Don't make an error and miss this one.
