Butterfly Pavilion Will Be Open through July 31

May 7, 2016 (El Cajon) -- The Water Conservation Garden invites the public to its third-annual Butterfly Festival on Saturday, May 14 for an exciting day of activities that will engage all ages with butterflies. The event highlights the important role these insects play in the ecosystem as well as how visitors can attract and support butterflies in their home gardens using drought-tolerant plants. A large selection of native milkweed plants will be on sale.
Activities at the festival will include:
- Butterfly pavilion tours and “Butterfly Discovery Lab”
- Butterfly habitat plant sale and workshops by local experts
- “Pollinator Party” with Ms. Smarty-Plants™ and Miss Metamorphosis
- Live music, food, crafts and jewelry by local artisans
Children are encouraged to dress as a caterpillar or their favorite winged pollinator for the Pollinator Party at 11:30 a.m. A complete program will be available at www.TheGarden.org.
The May 14 Butterfly Festival marks the beginning of Butterfly Season at The Water Conservation Garden, which will exhibit up to 12 native butterflies at its Dorcas E. Utter Memorial Butterfly Pavilion through July 31, 2016.
COST: May 14 Festival: $5 (18+ years) and $1 (3-17 years). Water Conservation Garden members and young children get in free. Ample free parking is available.

About the Water Conservation Garden
The 6-acre Water Conservation Garden is dedicated to helping southern Californian's save water in the landscape. How-to workshops are offered monthly, free docent-led tours are offered Saturdays at 10:30am, and self-guided tours may be enjoyed 9am-4pm, daily. The Garden's Ms. Smarty-Plants™ program provides environmental education to nearly 63,000 children each year. The Garden is supported by memberships, donations, grants, and water agency support.
