December 4, 2011 (Ramona) – A child who died Tuesday at his adoptive parents’ home in Ramona has been found to be a victim of homicide. The Medical Examiner’s office has ruled that 6-year-old Samuel Isaiah Dahlke died from complications of a head injury inflicted by his father at age two months.
The child’s father was convicted in 2006 of the abuse, which occurred in 2006. The victim’s sister, Barbara Smith, told 10 News that her brother was severely shaken as a newborn and never recovered. Adopted at two months into a family with several other special needs children, Dahlke was blind and had recently been bedridden and under hospice care when he died in his sleep.
San Diego Sheriff's Homicide detectives are investigating the death, which occurred at 1035 Olive Avenue in Ramona. It has not yet been announced whether the boy’s father may face other charges.
