December 4, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- This is the time of year when many residents of East County look for opportunities to get healthy, to try new activities and to volunteer. As you begin to pull together news articles focused on this topic, I would like to encourage your readers to learn more about the East County Family YMCA’s offerings for children, families and East County.

The Y is a place where members like Jason Dillaha can create meaningful change in their lives and in their community. When Jason walked through the front doors of the East County Family YMCA in January of 2006, he was a man with little hope. “I had suffered a neck injury and had been through the Worker’s Compensation System. After two years of doing rehab and being on many prescriptions, I was “cut loose” and on my own.

“The YMCA saved my life,” is what Jason tells people when they meet. ”I truly believe that had I not been welcomed so warmly, and given the membership at little cost, I would have died.” Now, almost five years later, Jason is over 50 pounds lighter and has learned a healthy lifestyle. “I go to the Y just about every day and I love it! Thank you YMCA!”
When people join the Y, they join a cause that strengthens community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Here, everyone gets stronger.
On Saturday, December 10, 2011 we will launch our annual membership campaign. On this one day only event, residents will receive 100% off their membership joining fee (a $99 savings). In addition, we are opening the Y to everyone for one week in January. Try the Y out for FREE January 2-8, 2012 and if residents join, they will receive 75% off the joining fee.
