September 14, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State today announced its non-conference schedule for the 2017-18 season and its broadcast assignments in conjunction with the Mountain West. Highlighting the schedule are home games vs. Gonzaga and California, and a trip to Orange County for the Wooden Legacy.

Fans’ first chance to see the Aztecs will be Nov. 2, when they play host to UC San Diego in SDSU’s lone exhibition of the campaign.

San Diego State opens the season with three of its first four games at Viejas Arena. The lidlifter will feature the Aztecs and San Diego Christian, a team SDSU’s has defeated all seven times, on Nov. 10. A quick trip to Arizona State is set for Nov. 14, when the Aztecs will look to avenge last year’s home loss to the Sun Devils.

SDSU will then play two straight home games against unfamiliar foes. First up is a Nov. 17 date vs. McNeese State, a program the Aztecs have played just twice before with the last time occurring on Dec. 21, 2013. Then Eastern Illinois will head to Montezuma Mesa on Nov. 20, in what will be the first-ever matchup between the schools.

The Wooden Legacy is next up on the docket for the Aztecs, who will draw Sacramento State in its first game on Nov. 23 (ESPNU, 10 p.m. PT). SDSU on Nov. 24 will face either Georgia or Cal State Fullerton at a time to be determined (ESPN2 or ESPNEWS, 4 or 6:30 p.m. PT). The final day of the event is set for Nov. 26.

San Diego State will make the trip across town to USD on Nov. 30 (7 p.m. PT), and will look to extend its four-game road winning streak vs. the Toreros.

Following the brief road trip, SDSU will complete its non-conference schedule with three games on Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena. Bradley will visit on Dec. 3 as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge, which will air on the Mountain West Network on STADIUM. California follows in the Braves’ footsteps on Dec. 9 (CBS Sports Network, 2 p.m. PT), with the Aztecs in search of their fifth straight win in the series.

The final game before the start of Mountain West action will be on Dec. 21, when 2017 national runner-up Gonzaga heads to The Mesa. SDSU dropped last year’s decision in Spokane, but will look to repeat 2010’s effort when it downed the Bulldogs inside The Kennel. The showdown is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT on CBS Sports Network.

Switching to television assignments for the Mountain West schedule, the Aztecs are set to appear on ESPN2 twice (Jan. 13, at Boise State; Feb. 10, at Nevada), ESPNU or ESPN3 (flex scheduling) three times, ESPN3 twice to open the conference slate and CBS Sports Network 11 times.

More schedule information will be announced in the coming weeks.

San Diego State is set to return three starters, including an all-conference backcourt of Trey Kell and Jeremy Hemsley, and five players overall (Montaque Gill-Caesar, Hemsley, Max Hoetzel, Kell, Malik Pope) who saw action in the starting lineup a year ago. The Aztecs also add Devin Watson to the roster after he sat out last season following his transfer from San Francisco where he averaged 20.3 points and 4.9 assists as a sophomore in 2015-16 and Kameron Rooks, who is a graduate transfer from California. In addition to Watson and Rooks, SDSU will welcome four-star athletes Jalen McDaniels (redshirt freshman) and Jordan Schakel (true freshman), and three-star players Matt Mitchell (true freshman) and Adam Seiko (true freshman).
