April 10, 2014 (Poway) – The Poway Chamber of Commerce hosted the first annual Mickey Cafagna Memorial Golf Classic on Friday, March 28, 2014. The event was held at Maderas Golf Club in Poway. The tournament included a day of golf and an awards reception that honored the former Poway Mayor, Mickey Cafagna.
Justin Coxsey, Jason Coxsey, Josh Coxsey and Don Isreal placed first in the tournament followed by Steve Harrison, Tony Contreras and Jeff Allen in second place. A total of 84 players participated in the event. Following the tournament, players and members of Mickey Cafagna’s family were invited to attend the awards reception. Mayor Higginson gave remarks and introduced Sharon Cafagna and son Kevin Cafagna who spoke in honor of past Mayor, Mickey Cafagna.
During the awards reception a suit, donated by Joseph Cortese of Joseph’s Men’s Wear & Custom Tailoring located in downtown San Diego, was used as a live auction item to raise funds for an organization selected by Sharon Cafagna. The suit was auctioned by Councilman Jim Cunningham for $1,000. The funds raised from the live auction will be donated to the North San Diego County Forensic Health Services at Palomar Health System.
