November 9, 2015 (Spring Valley) - Students at Monte Vista rock Radium Girls. Was the small theatre at the school full? No. Do the students who work hard for two months deserve a full house, with the school and peers behind them? Yes? I don't understand how the big theatres fill up and the small ones remain unoccupied. Their is no reason those seats should not be full. The arts benefit everyone in a positive way.

Factory workers treated unfairly is the theme of the play, still very much relevant throughout the world today. Is this a popular subject? No. A controversial subject, yes. As the "Grinder", a new television series said tonight, dramatic--which makes for a compelling play.

The students brought to life the story of girls who worked in a factory in the 1920s painting luminous watches and became ill from radium.poisoning.  The play focuses on their lives and struggles and eventual deaths.  This is not the fun lite fluff many theatre goers, including myself, love. Julie Beniitez, teacher and director is doing a fabulous job. Come out and support her kids.

The leads of Kaiiryn Polite, and Ashley Brown,, were simply amazing. As was Tristin Beery. Luci Martinez, did a great job lightening the mood., as a news reporter. Her counterpart, Jonathan Kooyman brought it as well. Jake Strohl, in the double role of Raymond Beery and Dr Von Sochocky, was quite impressive. The entire cast worked to make a statement and they need to be heard.

There are still several performances coming up this weekend. Check them out on November 12, 13, or 14 at Monte Vista High, 7 p.m.

If there isn't time for you to plan this show into your schedule keep them in mind. In February 2016, they will do "The Mystery of Carson House.' In May, "The Addams Family Musical." I've seen them do musicals and I'm sure they will put a smile on your face. The support of a full house would put a smile on their faces, too.
