August 19, 2015 (La Mesa)—An 88-year-old man was struck and killed after his pickup truck broke down in La Mesa Monday afternoon.  The victim, Reynaldo Nava of Coronado, had pulled his disabled vehicle onto a section of land between I-8 and State Route 125.

He used a call box to summon help, then walked back toward his vehicle when a Chevrolet Traverse SUV cut across the median and struck Nava, who died at the scene. The CHP has indicated the driver did not see Nava.

The driver who struck him, a New York resident, could face charges though drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash, La Mesa Patch.com reports.
